Lists

Inkwell has numbered lists and bullet lists . Both buttons are on the editor toolbar and turn the current paragraph, or the selected paragraphs, into a list.

Lists nest. Indent pushes the current item down a level; Dedent pulls it back up. Tab and Shift-Tab do the same thing from the keyboard.

Press Enter for the next item, and Enter on an empty item to leave the list.

A list can sit inside a block quote. Select the quoted material, list and all, and apply the Blockquote paragraph style — the list stays inside the quotation's indentation rather than breaking out of it. See Paragraphs and Other Content Styles.

List settings

Settings live under Project Settings → Lists, split into Numbered Lists and Bullet Lists, and can be overridden for one list at a time in Local Settings.

Both kinds share the layout settings:

• Indent — space to the left of the whole list.
• Body Indent — space between the marker and the text of the item.
• Spacing — space between consecutive items.
• Top Margin and Bottom Margin — space above and below the list.
• Number Align — how the marker is aligned within the space reserved for it. Right alignment keeps the text of every item flush when the list runs past item 9 into double-digit numbers.

Numbering

Numbered lists have separate numbering settings for each of the first three levels, so a nested list can run 1., then a., then i.

Each level has two settings:

• Numbering — the sequence: numerals, letters, roman numerals, and so on.
• Number Format — how the marker is written, such as 1. versus (1).
